Read 30 minutes We are learning about Stakeholders when thinking about government. The students have been given one of two scenarios to present to the class. The scenarios are below. Each scenario has 4-5 stakeholder opinions. Each student is responsible for better understanding the stakeholder point of view that they are presenting. Do some research tonight about why your stakeholders feels the way that they do. Case Study 2 Fort McMurray Alberta produces oil. Oil is deep in the land and is dug out. The land that contains the oil must be reclaimed once the oil is removed. (Stakeholders: Oil Companies, Aboriginal People, Employees, Environmentalists) Case Study 3 The province of Ontario looks for many different ways to generate power for its citizens. Wind power is an alternative source of power. However some people have different opinions on whether or not this is a good idea. Wind turbines can be installed in farmers fields or off shore in the water. (stakeholders: Ontario Power authority, Neighbours, Concerned Citizens, Farmers, Government) We Love Bakersfield Our annual fundraiser has begun and we need your help! Please continue to bring in your donation envelopes to the school. (If you're misplaced your envelope, simply send in the donation with the student indicating clearly who the donation came from.) Our goal this year is for every student to raise a minimum of $10 in donations. Please be sure to send in your donations no later than Monday, February 5th, 2018. Today's Math Problem Today the students were asked the following question: 'The perimeter of a rectangle is triple its length. What could the length and width of the rectangle be?'. Each group had successes in their learning and found multiple solutions. After finding a few solutions, the students were asked to look at the length, width and perimeter to determine if their were any patterns or relationships that might help them determine future possibilities. This activity was planned to help students practice finding the perimeter of a rectangle (using a formula), but also to think, reason and identify relationships within the numbers. I hope this helps you to understand and see how we explore and learn math in our class. Chief for a Day York Region District School Board is proud of its strong partnership with the York Regional Police. This year, we will have an opportunity to highlight our partnership and showcase the talents and abilities of our students through the Chief for a Day contest. Together with York Regional Police Chief Eric Jollife, I would like to extend an invitation to all our Grade 5 students to participate in this essay and speaking competition. The contest is sponsored by the York Regional Police Appreciation Dinner Committee and the winner will be asked to present his or her speech at the 26th Annual Police Appreciation Dinner on May 16, 2018. The contest is a great educational tool and a means to facilitate greater understanding between the police department and our students. Our experience over the past years has been rewarding for everyone involved. This year’s essay topic is: How does York Regional Police demonstrate leadership to ensure the community feels safe and secure? The contestants will be judged on the quality of content, and their public speaking ability. Each school is asked to submit one essay per Grade 5 class to their superintendent by February 18, 2018. Speeches should be two to three minutes in length. Superintendents will choose five submissions from across the Board to be forwarded to the final competition. The five finalists, their parents and teachers will be invited to attend the York Regional Police Headquarters in Aurora on March 6, 2018 at 9:00 a.m., where finalists will deliver their speeches before a panel of judges. The panel of judges will be comprised of the Chief and Deputy Chiefs of Police and the Co-Chairs of the Police Appreciation Night committee. After hearing all the finalists, an overall winner will be selected as “Chief for a Day.” Because all students put a great deal of time and effort into their papers, all of the finalists will receive a small memento of the occasion. If you are interested, please let me know. I will be happy to help you in any way. Homework

It occurred to me that some parents may not have seen lice before and may not know what they are looking for. If you would like me to check your child's hair and let you know if I find a case, please email me and give me permission. I am not a expert, but have been teaching long enough to have seen it many times before. Of course, I will do it in a discreet way.
