Homework Read 30 minutes Dragon: Read up to chapter 7 for Wednesday Pegasus: Read up to chapter 7 for Tuesday Religious Days In the next couple of weeks there are religious days where many students who will be away. When the teacher or office is not notified, the office will need to call every student's families until they know that everyone is safe. Please help make this process a little easier for them and call, email or write a note notifying them of an absence. If you send in a note or email to me, I will let them know and they will not call you on the day. Thank you to those parents who have already let myself or the office know that their child will be away next week. We really appreciate it!! Terry Fox Wow, what a great run! Read 30 minutes Reading Groups (Book Clubs): Phoenix: Read up to chapter 5 for Friday Griffin: Read up to chapter 2 for Friday Just a reminder to reading groups, you must be able to remember what you have read when we meet. If you need to, take notes so that you are ready for the discussion. Terry Fox Tomorrow is the last day to bring in Toonies for Terry. So far our class has collected $65. I am so proud of everyone...especially those students who saved their own money to donate. Great contributions everyone! Don't forget to dress up for the run tomorrow (running shoes, water bottles, etc.). Physical Education Our current unit of study in Gym has been 'Co-operative Games'. We are learning to work together as a team and be good members of a team. Today the students went through an obstacle course attached to another student (a rubber band going around the ankles of two students). This was not a race, it was an opportunity to work together to achieve a goal. Look at the great teamwork below. Homework
Read 30 minutes Writing: Write one paragraph about a rule that you have at home. Do you think that it is fair? Why or why not? Due: Tomorrow Book Clubs Today the students were told which reading groups they will be in for the foreseeable future. These groups can change and often will change over the course of the year. Groups are made based on specific skills that I feel they need to work on. This means that many groups will be working on different skills (e.g. reading fluency, speed and accuracy, as well as comprehension based skills such as inferring, visualizing, summarizing, etc...) at different times. Starting tomorrow I will be meeting with two groups every day and will assign reading/assignments. All reading groups assignments and homework will be posted on the weebly. Please ask your child what their reading group name is, so that you can help them keep up with their reading homework and assignments. Please review it, add/change anything that needs to be updated and then sign the back of the page to confirm that it is up to date. Please return these forms no later than Friday, September 23, 2016. Permission form sent home today Current Units of Study Currently we are working on the following units of study. Feel free to pass on this information to tutors or other partners in your child's education. Literacy: In reading, we are starting Book Clubs this week. Students will be put into groups and assigned reading and comprehension tasks. In writing, the focus is on writing proper paragraphs (introductory sentence, body and concluding sentence). Math: Multiplication strategies and numerical patterns. Science: Matter Social Studies : Social and Environmental justice and how it relates to the government Health: Healthy eating (understanding nutrients, reading food labels, etc.) Gym: Outside co-operative games (focusing on positive attitudes and supporting our classmates) Art: Using lines in our art Spelling Challenge Today we had a spelling challenge.
